Designed as the heart of the home, the kitchen was envisioned as a warm and welcoming gathering space that seamlessly connects to the outdoor courtyard through expansive retractable doors, encouraging an effortless indoor-outdoor lifestyle characteristic of Southern California living.

To reinforce the sense of warmth and permanence, rustic terracotta flooring was selected to ground the space and bring a lived-in character to the otherwise refined architectural envelope. At the center of the kitchen, a custom 12-foot island was designed to read more like a standalone furniture piece than traditional built-in cabinetry, lending the room a collected and homey feel.

Finished in Farrow & Ball’s “Octagon,” the island introduces a cheerful wash of color that brightens the space and brings an approachable energy to daily family life. The result is a kitchen that feels both elevated and deeply functional — designed equally for casual mornings, entertaining, and the rhythms of everyday living.

Outdoor living and entertaining were central to the design approach, with the home stepping gracefully down the site to create a series of layered garden patios and gathering spaces that frame distant mountain views. Designed to feel like a natural extension of the interiors, the rear courtyard encourages a fluid relationship between the home and landscape, supporting both large-scale entertaining and quiet everyday moments outdoors.
